New Jersey Online Recertification Credit Policy:

For online courses, an applicator can accumulate 2 units in Core and 4 units in each category over their 5 year recertification period. Overall, applicators are required to obtain 8 units in Core and 16 units in each category that they are certified over their 5 year recertification period.

1.  Mode of Action:  How Insecticides Work (PT02)  This is an online, self-paced course that allows applicators to gain knowledge of how pesticides work to destroy insects.  The course describes pest control based on the different classifications of pesticides and how each affects insects' body systems.  Applicators will also have a better understanding of the importance of rotation.

2. Pesticide Poisoning (PT03) This is an online, self-paced course that will assist applicators in recognizing the signs and symptoms of human pesticide poising.  Applicators will understand the different pesticide emergencies that can occur and will gain the knowledge necessary to administer basic first aid in emergency situations.

3. Safe Use of Pesticides I (PT01) This is an online, self-paced course that will help the applicator to understand some safe pesticide practices as well as federal laws that are in place to help protect individuals and the environment against adverse affects of pesticide use.

4.  Pests of Ornamentals and Forest Trees in the Northeast (PT05)  Management of unwanted pests begins by properly identifying the insect.  This course will allow applicators to better identify pests, know which plants are attacked by these pests, identify symptoms of infestation by the pest, and understand appropriate control methods.  This course examines the following pests:  Bagworm, Eastern Tent Caterpillar, Forest Tent Caterpillar, Fall Webworm, Gypsy Moth and Asian Gypsy Moth, Fall Cankerworm and Spring Cankerworm, and Hemlock Woolly Adelgid.

5.  New Invasive Pests of the Northeast (PT06)  There are many invasive insects that have been brought to this country.  These invasives pose a threat to our natural environment.  It is important that pest managers learn to identify these new pests.  Pests managers must know what to do to control the establishment and/or distribution of these pests in the northest.  This course will allow the pest manager to properly identify, note signs of infestation, and determine methods of control for the following pests:  Asian Longhorned Beetle, Brown Marmorated Stink Bug, Pine Shoot Beetle, Emerald Ash Borer, Pear Thrips, Sirex Woodwasp, and Viburnum Leaf Beetle.

6Invasive Plants of the Northeast (PT07)  Invasive plants are of concern in this country because they threaten the natural ecosystem.  In the United States these invasive plants have no natural enemies and they are therefore able to multiply quickly.  For each of the following invasive plants, you will be able to identify and determine appropriate methods of control:  Garlic Mustard, Japanese Knotweed, Japanese Stiltgrass, Lesser Celandine, Purple Loosestrife, Canada Thistle, Chinese Lespedeza, Chinese Silvergrass, Common Reed, Giant Hogweed, Giant Reed, and Spotted Knapweed.
